3-and-4-year-old kindergarten and long daycare environment situated in the tranquil surrounds of beautiful Red Hill.

Welcome to Monterosso.

We offer a high-quality service-based long daycare and integrated kindergarten program for three-to-five-year-old learners.

Informed by our teaching philosophy that embraces an ‘umbrella of kindness’, Monterosso’s kindergarten and long daycare program is delivered by a small, dedicated and highly qualified team of teachers. Monterosso prides itself on exceeding all 7 National Quality Standards established by the National Quality Framework. Through inquiry and project work, we support your child at the start of their learning journey guided by the Reggio Emilia approach and Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development (informed by the Early Years Learning Framework).

At Monterosso, we truly know our learners… and love to celebrate each and every birthday with a delightful tea party! We offer a bespoke learning environment with just 44 learning places in ample natural bush surrounds for children to learn, play and grow. Hands-on sustainable play is continued outdoors with a mud kitchen, sandpit, rocks, logs and free-ranging chickens.

Monterosso is open from 7:45am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Play-Based Learning Philosophy.

Our children are engaged in a supportive learning environment as they discover through play. Influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach, we seek to position children as confident and capable learners, able to effectively communicate with the world around them.

Our qualified Early Childhood Teachers and Educators support our students to develop 21st Century Skills (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication) in a safe, loving and nurturing environment.

Our program is carefully curated to offer a rich learning environment with engaging and purposeful play spaces.  Children are encouraged to embrace all aspects of their day, invited and encouraged to contribute to our daily rituals, traditions and decision making.

Each day, we come together as a community of learners to plan, think, create and reflect. Through our commitment to slow pedagogy, we encourage children to be present in the moment, ensuring the day is unhurried and thus allowing time and space for children to enjoy the process.

Kindness

“Monterosso teaches under an umbrella of kindness - being kind to ourselves, others and our environment. This is embedded into our everyday practice and informs the way we make our decisions as a group of teachers and children.”

Testimonials.

  • “Monterosso Early Learning is such a beautiful centre and has been a much loved second home to our three children. The team has consistently shown exceptional dedication and care in providing a nurturing environment for the children. The staff are genuinely passionate about their roles and always go above and beyond to ensure each child feels safe, valued and loved. They have a knack for seeing the individual and catering for each child’s interests regardless of how quirky or unique those interests may be! Communication was always fantastic and easy with regular photos and updates provided to parents. Monterosso Early Learning is well connected to the community and has played such a vital role in preparing our children for school. All three have felt confident and happy to make that transition and have been well placed to meet the needs of those early school days. We also had the added benefit of making some amazing, lifelong friends through the Monterosso community and our kids still love seeing the staff. I highly recommend the centre and the wonderful team who create such a welcoming space.”

  • “I am thrilled to write a testimonial about the wonderful kinder that my children have attended. The educators and program have been absolutely exceptional. The caring and dedicated staff have created a nurturing and enriching environment for my kids, tending to their love for learning and growth. The curriculum is not only educational but also fun, ensuring that my children eagerly looked forward to each day at the kinder. There are no two days the same. The teachers' creativity and passion for teaching have truly made a positive impact on my children's development. I couldn't be more grateful for the amazing experiences and lifelong memories they've gained at Monterosso. We feel like family. It's a place where children thrive, and I recommend it to any parent seeking an outstanding early childhood education program.”

  • “When I first visited Monterosso, I already had my children enrolled into another local kinder, but as soon as I stepped foot into Monterosso I knew that we would be making a change! I have had two children in long day care & the kinder programme there, and I cannot speak more highly about the quality of learning, the warmth and nurturing nature of the educators who became like family, the natural surroundings and the daily communication and photos of our children having the most wonderful time. Monterosso is more than a long day care centre or kinder, it really is a home away from home. Our children loved their time there so much and I cannot recommend it more highly!”

  • “Early years care and education is critical to the wellbeing of our kids - for this reason I thought deeply about where to send my two boys before they started school. The wonderful educators at Monterosso have a holistic, play-based approach to early years education that keeps each child in mind and thriving - they went above and beyond to tailor their care to the individual needs of my two children, and for that I will always be grateful. I truly believe that the staff at Monterosso impacted my boy's love of learning so positively that it resulted in a joyful journey to primary school.”

  • “All three of our kids attended Monterosso from the age of 3 until they commenced school. Monterosso was such a huge part of these formative years for our family and children. A wonderful fun and supportive learning environment. We were always blown away with the incredible things our kids had learnt, the activities they’d participated in, the connections they had made to their peers and educators and community. Sending our kids to Monterosso was pivotal in getting them ready for school as well as providing longer hours whilst we were working. We couldn’t recommend Monterosso highly enough.”

  • “We spent 5 years at Monterosso, and we were sad when our time there came to an end. Our boys absolutely adored their years playing, learning and growing with their friends and educators. Every single educator was exceptional. They knew what each child needed to thrive and catered for all their learning needs. Both of our boys began Prep prepared, with the skills they needed to begin their journey at primary school; knowledge of letters, sounds, writing their name etc. The play-based approach was engaging and fun, and outdoor space gave our busy, sporty boys an area to stretch their legs and shoot some hoops! We adored Monterosso!”

  • “Monterosso has been a lovely place for our two boys. They’ve enjoyed lots of free play, and age-appropriate play-based learning. For the past five years, we’ve been warmly welcomed every morning - and at the end of each day given a little update on how the day went. As parents, we have felt that our children have been seen and understood by the teachers – they get their personalities and cater to their individual interests. We have always felt that our children are in the safest hands. Both our boys have felt ready and excited for school, we can thank the Monterosso team for their support and help in preparing the children for this transition – they are encouraging, nurturing and bring fun into every activity. We have loved that management/owner are so actively involved and ‘on the floor’. Eliza and Anne-Marie spend so much time with the children, they get to know them and their needs really well. It’s unlike any other child care. We truly feel like our children have had the best start to independent life at Monterosso.”

Both of my children flourished in the nurturing environment provided by the dedicated staff, whose genuine care and passion for each child's well-being were evident every day. Thank you to the wonderful educators that nurtured and emotionally supported both of our children to build such a strong foundation for their future. Thank you for providing a holistic learning environment that encourages self-expression and collaboration. Eliza, Anne-Marie and team we sincerely thank you for giving our children over the last 7 years a wonderful start to their early learning journey."

Our Studios.

Piccolo Studio

Our youngest learners at Monterosso are welcomed into our thoughtfully curated space which we refer to as the ‘Piccolo Studio’. Our Piccolo learners are welcome to join the studio from their third birthday.

The integrated 3-year-old kindergarten program in the Piccolo Studio is lead by two qualified Early Childhood Teachers. Piccolo learners work with clay, delicate materials and tapestry in an early years program that strongly commits to fostering discovery, reverence, wonder, problem-solving and creative expression.

Kinder Studio

Our kindergarten studio caters for 4- to 5-year-old learners in a welcoming and aesthetically beautiful light-filled space where teachers and children collaborate as co-learners. Throughout the year, our 4-year-old kindergarten learners connect with their local community by participating in the Red Hill Art Show, engaging with local Aboriginal elders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives through ‘Living Culture’ visits, and enjoying yearly visits from a local beekeeper, dentist, and emergency services.

Throughout Terms 3 and 4, Monterosso emphasises school readiness through weekly literacy program incursions. By intentionally fostering learner agency and independence, Monterosso nurtures and empowers young learners as they develop problem-solving, reasoning and critical thinking skills.
